Description

Ancap Verona cups are among the most respected espresso cups in specialty coffee — pure porcelain cups made in Italy from kaolin, feldspar, and quartz, fired at over 1,400°C to produce a dense, durable, thermally stable cup that performs as well in a home espresso setup as it does on a busy café bar.

Italian Porcelain & Craftsmanship

Ancap has been manufacturing porcelain at their 215,000 square foot facility in Sona, just outside Verona, Italy, since 1964. Every Verona cup is made from pure porcelain — a combination of kaolin, feldspar, and quartz — fired at 2,552°F (1,400°C). This extreme firing temperature produces an exceptionally dense, compact porcelain body that is harder and more thermally stable than lower-temperature ceramics. The result is a cup that resists chipping, withstands the thermal shock of being pre-warmed and filled repeatedly throughout a day's service, and maintains its bright white glaze over years of use.

Thermal Performance

The thick porcelain walls of the Verona are a deliberate design choice. Greater wall thickness means more thermal mass — the cup absorbs and holds heat from the espresso rather than drawing it away, keeping your coffee at the right temperature for longer. Pre-warming the cup before pulling your shot makes an even more noticeable difference when using porcelain of this quality. For espresso, where serving temperature matters significantly to flavour presentation, the thermal properties of the Verona are a genuine performance feature.

The Verona Shape

The classically curved bowl design of the Verona range is shaped to present espresso well — a wider internal bowl than a narrow demitasse allows crema to sit and spread naturally across the surface. The egg-shell base and refined proportions give the cup a quality feel in the hand that immediately communicates the care that went into the coffee inside it.

Available Sizes

Five sizes are available, each suited to a specific drink style:

Espresso 70ml (2.5oz) — the classic demitasse size, suited to single and double espresso shots. The most popular size in the Verona range.

Small Cappuccino 150ml (5oz) — for traditional-style cappuccinos with a balanced espresso-to-milk ratio, closer to the Italian standard.

Flat White 190ml (6oz) — the ideal size for a flat white or a longer-style cortado, with enough volume for a double shot and a measured amount of steamed milk.

Large Cappuccino 260ml (8oz) — for a fuller cappuccino or a larger milk drink served with a standard double shot.

Latte 360ml (12oz) — the largest size in the range, suited to lattes and longer milk-based drinks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Ancap Verona cups different from standard coffee cups? Ancap Verona cups are made from pure porcelain — kaolin, feldspar, and quartz — fired at 1,400°C. This firing temperature produces a denser, harder, more compact porcelain than standard ceramics, resulting in significantly better thermal stability, impact resistance, and chip resistance. The thick walls retain heat more effectively during service, and the cups are designed to withstand the repeated thermal shock of pre-warming and filling throughout a professional café day. They are a step above mass-produced mugs in both material quality and performance.

Are Ancap Verona cups dishwasher safe? Yes. Ancap Verona cups are fully dishwasher safe. The high-temperature firing process produces a dense glaze that resists staining and holds its bright white finish through repeated commercial dishwasher cycles. For café use, they are built for the demands of daily machine washing without fading or crazing over time.

Which Ancap Verona size should I choose for espresso? The Espresso 70ml (2.5oz) is the classic choice — it is sized to hold a single or double espresso shot with enough headroom for the crema to sit and spread naturally. If you prefer a longer espresso style such as a lungo, the Small Cappuccino 150ml gives more flexibility. For milk-based drinks, the Flat White 190ml suits flat whites and cortados, the Small Cappuccino 150ml suits traditional cappuccinos, and the Large Cappuccino 260ml suits larger cappuccino servings.

Where are Ancap Verona cups made? All Ancap cups are manufactured at Ancap's production facility in Sona, a town just outside Verona in northern Italy. Ancap has been producing porcelain at this site since 1964 and manufactures entirely in Italy — from raw material processing through to final glazing and firing.

Are the Ancap Verona cups sold with saucers? The cups are sold individually. Matching Ancap Verona saucers are available separately. Each size of cup corresponds to a specific saucer size — if you are purchasing cups and saucers together, ensure you match the correct saucer size to your chosen cup.
