Description
The Brewista Smart Scale II is a feature-rich espresso and brewing scale built around six programmable modes — combining auto-tare, auto-timer, and hands-free operation into a compact, water-resistant body that sits comfortably on any espresso machine drip tray.
6 Brewing Modes
The six modes are what set the Smart Scale II apart from simpler brewing scales, covering every espresso and pour-over workflow:
Mode 1 — Manual: Fully manual operation. User controls tare and timer independently — suited to experienced baristas who prefer full control.
Mode 2 — Auto Espresso (immediate timer): Place cup on scale — weight and timer both auto-zero and the timer starts immediately. Remove cup when finished; final weight and time display for 5 seconds before resetting.
Mode 3 — Auto Espresso (manual timer start): Scale auto-tares when cup is placed. Timer is started manually — useful when you want to tare first but control exactly when timing begins.
Mode 4 — Auto Espresso (tare only): Scale auto-tares when cup is placed, but no timer runs. Clean and minimal for dose-focused espresso workflows.
Mode 5 — Auto Espresso (first-drop timer): Scale auto-tares when cup is placed. Timer starts only when liquid hits the cup — ideal for accurately capturing extraction time from the first drop.
Mode 6 — Pour-Over: Place brew vessel on scale — auto-tares to zero. Add filter and coffee, press tare again. Timer starts automatically when water is added. Suited to V60, AeroPress, and other manual methods.
Water Resistance & Build
The entire body of the Smart Scale II is coated in a water-resistant nano-coating — inside and out — making it safe for use on an espresso machine drip tray throughout service. A silicone pad is included, which sits under the cup during brewing to prevent heat from the vessel affecting the load cell readings, and to protect the platform surface. A protective acrylic cover ships with the scale and doubles as a secondary weighing tray for beans or food.
Display & Power
The split orange backlit LCD shows weight on the right and time on the left simultaneously, with mode and battery level also visible. The scale measures 127mm x 107mm x 18mm — compact enough to fit between most drip tray walls and under portafilter spouts. It is rechargeable via micro-USB (cable not included) with a battery life of several days under regular use. Auto-off is adjustable between 60, 120, and 180 seconds, or can be disabled entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the 6 modes on the Brewista Smart Scale II? The six modes cover a range of espresso and pour-over workflows. Modes 1–5 are espresso-focused: Mode 1 is fully manual; Mode 2 auto-tares and starts the timer immediately when a cup is placed; Mode 3 auto-tares but requires a manual timer start; Mode 4 auto-tares only with no timer; and Mode 5 auto-tares and starts the timer only when liquid hits the cup. Mode 6 is a pour-over mode that auto-tares the vessel, allows you to add coffee and re-tare, then starts the timer automatically when water is added.
Is the Brewista Smart Scale II water-resistant? Yes. The entire body is coated with a water-resistant nano-coating that protects the internal components from splashes and the damp environment around an espresso machine drip tray. The included silicone pad provides additional protection for the platform and prevents temperature-induced reading variations when using hot cups or brewing vessels. The micro-USB charging port is covered by a silicone door to keep moisture out.
Does the Brewista Smart Scale II come with a charging cable? No. The scale charges via micro-USB but the cable is not included, as Brewista assumes most users have a suitable cable. The battery lasts several days under regular home use. For heavy café use, recharging at the end of each day is recommended. Note: avoid leaving the scale on charge overnight, as overcharging can degrade the lithium-ion battery.
What is the difference between the Brewista Smart Scale II and the Rhino Stealth Espresso Scale? Both are compact, water-resistant espresso scales with 0.1g accuracy, a built-in timer, and rechargeable batteries. The Brewista Smart Scale II's key advantage is its six programmable modes — including auto-tare, auto-timer from first drop, and a dedicated pour-over mode — which automate more of the brewing workflow. The Rhino Stealth is IP65 certified (a higher formal water resistance rating), includes a detachable dual platform for cups or portafilter weighing, and charges via USB-C. The Brewista suits baristas who want smart automated modes; the Rhino Stealth suits those who prioritise a certified IP rating and a more versatile platform setup.
Can the Brewista Smart Scale II be used for pour-over as well as espresso? Yes, though it is primarily designed for espresso. Mode 6 is a dedicated pour-over mode that auto-tares the brew vessel, allows you to add and adjust your coffee dose, then starts the timer automatically when water is added. Its compact 127mm x 107mm footprint can accommodate a Chemex or V60 server without obscuring the display or buttons, though it is on the smaller side for larger batch brewers.
